India's TV5 Chooses Blackmagic Design Teranex 2D Processor for Conversions Manchester, UK - March 26, 2013 - TV5 News has installed the Teranex 2D Processors at its Hyperabad head office in Andhra Pradesh, India, for PAL to NTSC standards conversion, aspect ratio conversion and color matching. The regional broadcaster produces a range of content televised in Telgu, including news, sports and public affairs programing, and has an office in the US providing coverage of non resident Indian (NRI) news. Broadcasting approximately 5,000 hours of programming each year, TV5 transmits to more than 200 affiliated stations and cable operators across India and the US.
Transmission in India is over a PAL SD SDI embedded signal, however TV5 also has an NTSC playout feed for the US. The PAL signal is processed via Blackmagic's Teranex 2D Processor for format conversion to NTSC and then adjust the primary color gains to ensure color matching. The NTSC playout feed with 4:2:2 sampling is then encoded for final transmission to the USA and sent from Hyperabad to America via a VSNL teleport.
As a broadcaster, transmission has to be of the highest quality, and whatever solution we use for processing and conversion must not degrade the original signal in anyway, said Surendranath Bollineni, TV5 News. In our mind, Teranex is the standard for processing and conversion. Its performance, coupled with ease of operation, means we get impressive quality in a product that is only one rack unit high, providing us with with real time up, down and cross conversion for both SD and HD standards.
We also like the fact that it is easy to understand, and simple to explain. The front panel, with its LCD screen, means all we have to do is plug in a source, whether it is HDMI or SDI, and specify the final output. Everything else is done for you. This little bag of tricks means we can be prepared for nearly any eventuality, Surendranath concludes.
