Toshiba Submits Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets to Science Based Targets initiative for Validation

TOKYO Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502), in its June 5 announcement, The Toshiba Next Plan Progress Report, committed to submit its greenhouse gas emissions goals for validation as Science Based Targets (SBT) by the end of this fiscal year, to March 31, 2021. The company took that step today.

Established by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), global leaders in environmental awareness, the SBT initiative defines a set of medium- and long-term science-based goals that companies follow toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the threats of climate change. The goals follow the targets defined by the 2015 Paris Agreement, and promote emission reductions necessary to limit global warming to well below 2 above pre-industrial levels, and to pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5 .

Toshiba has a long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability, including proactive environmental and business plans that aim to contribute to realizing the target of well below 2 . Toshiba also plans to make information disclosures in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure*, with the aim of improving long-term corporate value.
