Media releases - 0 Screen Australia invests $. million in four SBS documentary series

Screen Australia today announced over $2.3 million investment in four SBS documentary series triggering $8.8 million in production.

Screen Australia's Documentary Manager Liz Stevens said, These four bold and perspective-changing documentary series will explore in detail different aspects of Australian society. We're pleased to be able to invest in partnership with SBS to enable this talented group of documentary filmmakers to bring these stories to Australian audiences.

From the National Documentary Program, The Catch is a three-part series directed by Stephen Oliver following Matthew Evans, presenter of SBS's Gourmet Farmer, as he embarks on a voyage of discovery looking at the complex and often shocking truths behind the seafood Australians produce. The series is produced by Sonja Armstrong and Alan Erson and is written by Michael O'Neill, Matthew Evans and Stephen Oliver.

Also produced by Sonja Armstrong and Alan Erson is the three-part series The Great Australian Race Riot, which looks at the history of tribe-on-tribe street fighting as a vicious but vital part of the way Australia really works, revealing a remarkably consistent window into who we are. The series is directed by Sally Aitken and written by Alan Erson.

Z Special Unit is a three-part series written and directed by Robert Wilkins charting the journey of Australia's first special forces unit, to be produced by Daniel Brown, Anthony Willinge and Jacqueline Willinge.

One project was also funded through the General Documentary Program, Living with the Enemy, a bold and provocative six-part series exploring the fault lines of social cohesion in Australia.
