Hungarys Largest Octopus System Accelerates Echo TVs Drive for News

Hungarian television channel Echo TV is ramping up its news coverage with new people, new programmes and new facilities. Following a major technical upgrade, the channel recently went live from newly built ultra-modern production studios in Budapest. Spearheading its drive for greater creativity and efficiency, Echo TV chose a full-blown Octopus 8 newsroom computer system using almost all of the currently available modules. 80 concurrent user licenses have been purchased, making this the biggest Octopus installation in Hungary to date.

The new Octopus system is integrated with GV Vertigo channel branding graphics, Imagine Communications Nexio video servers and Mosart studio control automation. Echo TV selected Broadcast Solutions Hungary as primary systems integrator to manage this large-scale project. For the newsroom core, Broadcast Solutions Hungary partnered with Silicon Computers Kft which has worked for nearly 15 years as the Octopus master distributor for Hungary. Both companies are also based in the Budapest so are able to provide Echo TV with very local service.

Silicon Computers organised and provided most of the technical training for Echo TVs newsroom staff in their own language. Silicon Computers is also providing ongoing first level support to Echo TV as it already does to other Octopus broadcast customers in Hungary, including TV2 and ATV.

The Octopus 8 newsroom computer system is designed for use by television, radio, sports and esports broadcasters. It facilitates editorial collaboration between news team members at every stage of the newscast production process, from initial receipt of task notification to complete and advanced rundown management. Octopus 8 also goes beyond by providing the tools to publish content to web and social media channels from a single platform. The Octopus 8 graphic interface provides fast access to essential tools plus special facilities for stories that require fast editorial approval. Advanced features are also within easy reach and can be managed based on user rights. Octopus 8 runs natively on Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X. Mobile apps are available for Google Android and Apple iOS tablets as well as smartphones. Octopus is suitable for all types and levels of operation, from a single channel with just a few bulletins per day to full-scale 24/7 news networks.
