Watch the Matildas take on the World, live and exclusive on SBS
SBS is pleased to announce that for the first time in Australian TV history it will be broadcasting the entire 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Canada, live, free and exclusive.
All matches from the month-long tournament will be live on SBS ONE, SBS HD and online, with the only exceptions being the concurrent group stage matches which will be streamed live online at www.sbs.com.au/theworldgame.
The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup will kick off with the opening match between host nation, Canada and China at 7:30am AEST Sunday 7 June live on SBS ONE.
The Matilda's FIFA Women's World Cup campaign will begin on Tuesday, June 9 when they take on 2011 runner up USA at 9.00am AEST live on SBS ONE. The Matildas' tournament continues when they go up against Nigeria at 6:30am AEST on Saturday 13th June live on SBS ONE, and Sweden, who finished 3rd place in 2011, at 9:30am AEST Wednesday 17th June live on SBS ONE.
Lucy Zelic will host all of the Matildas' matches with a panel of special guests and SBS 2 will feature a daily highlights show at 5:35pm, which will include match highlights and analysis as well as interviews, features and the latest football news.
SBS reporter Vitor Sobral will be in Canada following the Matilda's World Cup campaign, while reporting live ahead of each of their matches. He will also have the latest news and interviews with players and football experts.
Ken Shipp, SBS's Director of Sport said: The World Cup is ingrained in SBS's DNA and we're thrilled to be able to showcase the best of international women's football to Australian audiences. This year we are showing 41 matches live on air, with all 52 matches available live online, a first in Australian TV history.
The Matildas are a very strong team with a long history of success. In their previous two World Cup campaigns they qualified to the quarterfinals stage - so we're really looking forward to sharing their 2015 journey with the whole of Australia.
The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Canada is live and exclusive on SBS from Sunday 7 June to Monday 6 July.
