Uploading real-time production data from spectroscopic analysis to the cloud ZEISS presents a data sharing and spectroscopy measurement solution based on Microsoft Azure at the Microsoft stand at Hanover Messe from the 1st to the 5th of April 2019. Providing clients with instant data and insight, this solution allows for increased efficiency and process optimization in food production, better use of raw materials and energy as well as higher product quality.ZEISS has teamed up with Microsoft to develop a unique spectroscopic solution that gives customers invaluable insights and information about food quality parameters such as fat, moisture and salt content in their products. This is achieved by mounting a ZEISS Corona process spectrometer directly on the production line, providing constant and accurate measurement, and feeding this data into Microsoft's cloud platform Azure. The information is available to all the individuals responsible for monitoring and optimizing production, speeding up decision making and allowing them to make their processes run as efficiently and effectively as possible.
The connected factory' is built upon data
Real-time spectroscopic measurement and data upload to the cloud is part of the move towards a connected factory'. Also known as Industry 4.0', this involves using new and innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, automation and data sharing and connectivity to help production processes deliver higher quality, while being safer and more efficient at the same time.
ZEISS has been at the forefront of these developments in connected production and manufacturing with its measurement solutions providing substantial competitive advantages to clients. Real-time spectroscopic analysis allows for proactive process optimization, leading to consistent quality and productivity.
ZEISS is the first company to offer a spectrometer, such as a ZEISS Corona process, that is integrated with Microsoft Azure. This cloud-based solution makes monitoring processes such as food production easy and convenient for clients, who can access data and make adjustments to production in real time and from just about anywhere. For example, an Australian ZEISS client can now easily measure salt and moisture content in snack products in mere seconds, thanks to intelligent and connected spectrometers such as the ZEISS Corona process. This means that any issues affecting quality can be addressed almost immediately, as opposed to older processes where this could take anywhere between several minutes to hours.
Quality information whenever and wherever it is needed
By integrating a connected spectroscopy solution directly into the production line, clients can measure quality indicators such as fat content, moisture, or salt content in a matter of seconds. This information then goes to the cloud and the client can react quickly to process variations, increasing quality and productivity, while using raw materials and energy in a more efficient way at the same time. In short: they gain an advantage by consistently delivering quality like never before. says Dr. Christian Korth, Managing Director of Carl Zeiss Spectroscopy GmbH.
Today, more and more businesses are becoming software businesses. In industry, this means not only adapting digital technologies quickly, but also building up digital competencies and offering new value-added digital services. ZEISS is a great example of how leaders are implementing new technologies that improve food quality , says Thorsten Herrmann, General Manager, Microsoft Germany.
