TMD and Eurotek implementation at RTE shortlisted for prestigious IBC Award

Irish national broadcaster Raidi Teilifis ireann (RT) is one of just three finalists for the IBC2013 Innovation Award for Content Management. Its nomination is in recognition of its decisive move towards a fully file-based infrastructure driven by automated workflows, in a project enabled by technology from TMD and implemented by local distributor and systems integrator Eurotek.

FAST file acquisition and server technology is unique in the way it presents the workflow design capability to the user. As well as managing all of RTs content, Mediaflex from TMD also provides the workflow engine. For the first time, in FAST workflows are not hard-coded into the system: Mediaflex allows users to assemble their own pre-sets and routines and build them into the required workflows themselves.

In a fragmented world where media consumption has diversified, with viewers not only being able to choose what they want to watch but also when and how they want to watch, the beauty of Mediaflex is that it allows RT the flexibility to adapt to ever-changing workflows and business requirements.

The project implementation also involved innovative thinking. The first stage was to install a plain vanilla TMD Mediaflex system to prove the concepts and to get all users engaged with FAST, as well as to provide the development environment to create the workflows which would be required. This simple step de-risked the whole project, allowing the full implementation to be rolled out across the whole of RT quickly and without problems.
