Berklee Summer in the City Returns with Hundreds of Free Concerts

29/05/2019

This summer, Berklee students, faculty, and alumni will perform more than 400 free concerts at notable venues in and around Boston as part of Berklees Summer in the City concert series.

Performances will take place through early October. The series will feature beloved performance locations throughout the city, such as the Boston Public Library, the Boston Harbor Islands, Brewer Fountain Plaza at the Boston Common, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Prudential Center. Summer in the City performers will also be featured in free festivals in the area, including Jazz at the Fort in Roxbury's Highland Park and the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival.

New venues for the 2019 series include 401 Park in the Fenway, Chin Park on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, the Arnold Arboretum, Harvard Farmers' Market, and City Winery on the Greenway.

The series will present a variety of musical genres, including jazz, R&B, world, pop, electronic, and classical, as part of its 2019 programming. Notable performers this summer include Cuban jazz flutist Sheila del Bosque, electronic-soul singer-songwriter Malaya, alternative Americana group Havins, singer and pianist Ljuliana Thomas, and award-winning mandolin player Ethan Setiawan.

Previous Summer in the City performers have included Betty Who, Esperanza Spalding, Haerts, Stray Birds, and Sierra Hull.

We are delighted to bring another year of Summer in the City performances to the city and Greater Boston area, said Berklee President Roger H. Brown. The concert series is one of Berklee's best contributions to our local community, with free shows by some of the most talented young artists in the world.
