Sabc 2 recently commissioned an Afrikaans Sitcom called Kniediep in die warm water to a PE-based production company, named Sunshine Coast Studios. This project was a development initiative by the public broadcaster to transfer skills to PE locals, develop the Film Industry in Mandela Bay and hence create jobs in the future.
Megan Firth, seasoned Line Producer and member of www.filmcontact.com, was paired with the local production Company Sunshine Coast to transfer skill and facilitate the entire project.
It was the most amazing experience. The locations are beautiful, untamed, available for shoots with little effort. This tourist destination is clean and pristine. The Local departments, specifically Tourism, was willing to assist wherever they could to source accommodation and host parties. Not to mention the Media Houses and their ongoing support!
Megan went on to say that it is definitely her newest favourite place to shoot. Long Peers, white secluded sand dunes, lighthouses, ravines and meandering rivers, quiet fields, open beaches, extremely picturesque

There are also well-known actors that reside there should you want to save flight and accommodation costs for talent like Nomhle Nkonyeni and Fiks Mahola and other newly discovered talent that will not disappoint. There is also a trained film crew waiting to be hired.
Megan says that during her 6 week shoot in PE, the wind affected for a total of 10 mins a day for less than 3 days. The weather was temperate and so were the people. All props, besides for a few hero pieces, were sourced from PE. It boils down to embracing the bay and discovering that the friendly city is indeed that, it has much to offer and the people have great knowledge of where to find anything and everything!
