Lookout expands to Japan; KDDI selects Lookout to provide customers a single, easy-to-use solution to remotely locate, wipe, or lock a lost phone
Tokyo, JP & San Francisco, CA, USA October 2, 2014 KDDI and Lookout, the leading mobile security company, today announced a strategic partnership to deliver, award-winning device security to aus millions of Android and iOS customers. With the commencement of the partnership, KDDI will become the only mobile operator in Japan to offer customers support for locating a missing iPhone through its customer support center. Lookout Mobile Security will also come pre-installed on all of KDDI Android phones moving forward.
More than two million people in Japan already protect their phones with Lookout, said Jim Dolce, Lookout CEO. This footprint, together with our newly formed partnership with KDDI, positions Lookout for continued expansion in this highly strategic market. We look forward to providing Japanese users the security needed to keep their devices and everything on them safe.
Lookout is a leading device security provider and has provided anti-loss and anti-theft security solutions to more than 50 million smartphone users around the world, said Mr. Makoto Takahashi, KDDI senior vice president director. Today, smartphones are full of private and important information, and KDDI is well positioned to help customers who have lost their smartphones. KDDI has been working hard to provide a secure experience to its customers via au Smartpass, and we are confident that our customers will agree that this collaboration with Lookouts products and KDDIs customer support will satisfy the needs for advanced security.
Phone loss and theft are some of the biggest challenges facing mobile users today. According to recent Lookout research, 1 in 5 Japanese smartphone owners have lost or misplaced their phone. With the highly personal information smartphones carry -- from banking records to mobile payment information to corporate email -- people are more concerned than ever to recover their phones. Excluding the cost of the physical device itself, Lookouts research revealed that nearly half of Japanese smartphone owners would be at least somewhat likely to pay 30,000 just to recover the personal data off their phone.
The reality is, 28% of lost phone victims who were not able to recover their phone didnt get it back because they didnt think anything could be done. With Lookout, au customers can feel empowered with the tools needed to recover a lost device and safeguard the private information on their phones.
Functionality of Lookout for au:
Find my phone: Instantly pinpoint a devices exact location on a map.
Scream it: Sound a loud alarm on a device even if the sound settings are programmed to silent or vibrate.
Dead battery? No problem: au customers with registered Lookout accounts can automatically flag the last known location of a device so if the battery dies, the user has a better chance of getting it back.
Lock it down*: A free feature only to au customers, Lookouts lock functionality allows users to remotely lock a device to block access to personal data.
Wipe it clean*: If the device is gone for good, remotely wipe it so private information doesnt fall into the wrong hands.
iOS users can download Lookout Mobile Security via the Apple App Store.
Android supported features only
Exclusive functionality for au customers:
Customers with au Smart Pass and au Smart Support now have access to around the clock assistance to help them use Lookout to locate, lock*, and wipe* a phone thats gone missing. Now, with KDDI and Lookout, customers have a simple way to find a missing phone. Users can call 113 on a mobile device or 0077-7-113 from a landline for assistance in finding a device.
